Tracking Your Comments
You'll be leaving comments on the blog's of other students in the class and blogs of people not part of this class. To keep track of those comments, use CoComment. This site allows you to track all your comments and to add comment widgets to your own blog.
NOTE: There are two "parts" to the lab today. This is part one. When you are done, be sure to complete the other part at: http://sixdegrees.wikidot.com/analytics
Follow these steps:
- Sign up for an account at http://www.cocomment.com
- Add bookmarklet to Firefox or IE by clicking on the "Install Now" button on the CoComment home page. (Be sure to do this again on your laptop/personal computer so you can use CoComment at home.)
- Try it out!
- Go to every member of your blog circle
- Leave a comment on one of their posts (you can write "just testing co-comment")
- Click on "Open My Sidebar" to watch what happens in CoComment as each member of your blog circle leaves comments.
(Optional) Add a "widget" to your blog to show off your comments. The 'user comments' widget lets you show all comments you've left on any site. You can also add widgets to your own blog showing recent comments left on your blog and top commenters on your blog.
- Get the code here: http://www.cocomment.com/tools/share
- Copy/paste this code
- Log into blogger and go to your 'dashboard'
- Click on 'Layout'
- Click on 'Add a Page Element"
- Choose "HTML/Javascript"
- Clear title for element (make it blank)
- Paste code
- Preview your new blog and Save changes
(Optional) Add your comments to Facebook. Two apps are available:
- Show comments that you've left with this app: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=6773693823
- Show comments left on your blog with this app: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=6002113870
Extra Credit
Leave thoughtful comments on blogs outside of those written by students in this class. Keep track of the ongoing conversation with coComment. Get +5 on Assignment1 (cumulative from now on) for each relevant, thoughtful comment left on an "outside" blog. Send me a comment summary at the end of the semester for extra credit.
